If you deal with major depression, and we all do from time to time, you will want to learn what over the counter (OTC) supplements you can take to help fight off the blues.

As always, talk with your doctor when taking these or before you take them and see what they say about their healthy benefits.

These are all supplements I take or have taken, and I recommend them.

  1. Melatonin 5mg to 10 mg - just 10 mg a day will help you regulate sleep at night, helping to sleep more effectively and more deeply, wake up feeling like you have slept rather than not. Take two at night if needed to help you sleep more deeply.
  2. 5-HTP is a Serotonin balancer, that helps you create natural serotonin in the body. This helps us stay healthy and happy and not sad and melancholy all the time. It also helps us make melatonin for the brain to sleep better with. Natrol is a wonderful brand that also contains a mood enhancer that helps throughout the day and it even fights anxiety. Helps you like Paxil does.
  3. B12 complex: Helps us with energy metabolism and helps us with healthy cell growth. 1 tab of 50 mg does wonders.
  4. Biotin: Natural and healthy energy metabolism and helps you hair, skin and nails grow. 1000 mg a day in 1 pill makes all the difference.
  5. Vitamin E - not getting enough sunshine? We need Vitamin E to help us feel energic - 1 pill a day is all it takes to get some essential nutrients that we aren't getting from the sun, greens or healthy fruits and veggies.
  6. Vitamin A - nessecary to promote energy in the body, clear thinking in the brain, which is found in most beans, and other red meats. If not getting enough of this you can take it in a pill form.
  7. Vitamin K - found in cereals and leafy greens, it is a special compound that helps the eyes, the inner organs function their best. It is one of the minerals that starts to vanish at the outstart of menopause and peri-menopause.
  8. Manganese - Helps the inner eyes, brain and energy/psychic energy as well as nail color and growth and skin protection. Most of this nutrient is found in pumpkin seeds and or other fruits like avocado, as well as cantaloup.
  9. Immune system help - I take an elderberry gummy I get from IHerb.com that helps with my Immune system, helps to fight off colds and sickness and generally tastes great and helps when I am low on greens and fruits.
